Please note: It is important to remove both sides prior to installation of the gas springs as often slight variations occur between manufacturers.

1. Since the tailgate cannot be supported without the two gas struts, it is strongly recommended that you ask an assistant to hold it during replacement of the old units.
2. Using a small flathead screwdriver, release the retaining spring as shown in figure 1. It is not necessary to remove the spring, simply release or ease it and pull the strut away from its mounting bolt.
3. Repeat on the other end.
4. Remove the opposite side strut.
5. Install the new strut by simply pressing the upper and lower mounting sockets into position. No need to release the spring, simply press into position.
6. Your assistant may need to lift or lower the boot lid to locate the new strut properly.
   PLEASE NOTE: Boot Gas Springs are always mounted with the piston, or rod, pointing downward.
