Assembly instructions. Please note: It is important to remove both sides prior to installation of the gas springs as often slight variations occur between manufacturers.
Since the tailgate cannot be supported without the two gas struts, it is strongly recommended that you ask an assistant to hold it during replacement of the old units.
Using a small flathead screwdriver, release the retaining spring as shown in figure 1. It is not necessary to remove the spring, simply release or ease it and pull the strut away from its mounting bolt.
Repeat on the other end.
Remove the opposite side strut.
Install the new strut by simply pressing the upper and lower mounting sockets into position. No need to release the spring, simply press into position.
Your assistant may need to lift or lower the boot lid to locate the new strut properly.PLEASE NOTE: Boot Gas Springs are always mounted with the piston, or rod, pointing downward.

Support Tailgate.
Always have an assistant take the weight of the tailgate during the removal and installation process. It may be necessary to raise or lower the tailgate whilst installing.
Do not rely on makeshift props or supports.

Ease Spring.
Insert a small flathead screwdriver behind the spring just enough to release the tension on the location pillar. There is no need to remove the spring.

Remove Strut.
Gently pull or tug the strut away from the location pillar. Repeat for the other end, insert screwdriver then ease away from location pillar. Remove both old struts before installing the new ones.

Replace Strut.
When both struts are removed install the new ones by gently pressing onto the location pillar. A gentle push or tap is all that is needed, no need to ease the spring.
